An autobiographical solo dance theatre work that maps the life of an unorthodox performance artist in Hong Kong
“What have you got to lose? Your initials are literally WTF.” — Dick Wong Tai-fai
W.T.F. – a new solo work by acclaimed independent performer and choreographer Dick Wong Tai-fai – is a contemplation on dancing, ageing and an aged dancing body. Confronting and concealing, the dance theatre piece maps the life of an unorthodox performance artist in Hong Kong, and explores the complexities of keeping moving as the body changes.
Rooted in a hesitant desire to create an autobiographical performance, W.T.F. grew from the playful double meaning of Wong’s initials. Sometimes direct, often oblique, the work considers the choices of a creator who has spent decades working outside the mainstream and questioning the nature of dance.
Wong, who entered the dance world in his early thirties, has forged an unconventional path and developed his own unique dance language. His innovative work has led to regional and international collaborations, tours and recognition.
